Medical services are monitored by the Medical Director. Residents can continue with the services of their personal physician if they wish to do so. Upon admission every client must have the Admission Agreement Form completed. Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), and Care Aides provide 24 hours of quality care, assisting with activities of daily living. All medications are administered by trained professionals on duty and approved by professional pharmacists.
A resident’s care is discussed in a multidisciplinary care plan meeting. Families are invited and encouraged to attend and participate in this decision making process for their loved ones.

The dietary department is under the supervision of a registered dietician and food service manager. All special meals must be approved by the in-house physician and dietary team. Nutritious meals are served in an elegant dining room, where meals can be enjoyed with a beautiful view of the landscaped courtyard. Tray service to the resident’s room is available only when the resident is unable to go to the dining room. Each resident’s dietary requirements are regularly discussed and approved by the dietitian and the multidisciplinary care team. We endeavour to make meal times an enjoyable experience. Gourmet traditional menus are provided for special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Easter, Canada Day, New Year’s Day and Christmas. The use of multicultural food is highly encouraged and the resident council’s input is considered during the menu planning.

Programs of a therapeutic, recreational, and social nature are designed to meet the resident’s spiritual, physical, emotional, mental, and social needs, as well as, cultural interests. They are offered daily to those who wish to participate. These programs are created and coordinated under the direction of an Activity Worker, Director of Care, Nursing staff, Dietitian and Resident’s Council. The aim of these programs is to promote a sense of independence and well-being, and improve the quality of life for each resident at Britannia Lodge.
